This documentary short is a portrait of Island stewardship on Chile’s Robinson Crusoe Island.
SI LA ISLA QUIERE
While many cultures look to a higher power, saying “God willing,” islanders live by a different credo: “si la Isla quiere”—”Island willing.”
Islands need your help.

About the Film
Just over 450 years ago, the first human set foot on Robinson Crusoe Island. Since then, a syncretic community has developed a culture of stewardship, where human ambition yields to the rhythms of nature.
Today, that way of life is under threat. SI LA ISLA QUIERE captures this struggle through intimate vignettes, from 60 meters underwater to 3,000 feet above sea level. Moving across the island’s terrain, the film’s ensemble elucidates a rare perspective: the voice of the island itself.

Isla Robinson Crusoe
Part of the Juan Fernández Archipelago, Robinson Crusoe Island hosts more endemic species than the Galápagos. About half the size of Manhattan, it features rugged terrain with steep cliffs and dense forests and is home to a rich mix of marine and terrestrial life, including the Juan Fernández Fur Seal, the Critically Endangered Juan Fernández Firecrown Hummingbird, and the Pink-footed Shearwater.
Robinson Crusoe Island recently joined the Island-Ocean Connection Challenge, an initiative led by Island Conservation and other volunteer partners to begin restoring 40 globally significant island-ocean ecosystems by 2030.
Island Conservation works side-by-side with Robinson Crusoe Island residents and experts, using cutting-edge technology and conservation techniques to protect biodiversity and the island-ocean ecosystem. Over the years, Island Conservation and the community have collaborated on several impactful initiatives — including tsunami recovery efforts in 2010, the Lenovo Work for Humankind project, and most recently, laying the groundwork for the Marine Protected Area expansion implementation.
