What does an Island Conservation project sound like? Journalist Kate Evans, author of an incredible feature story in New Zealand Geographic, brings us the latest episode of Voice of Tangaroa: “Turning the tide.”
Featuring the voice of Island Conservation’s Baudouin des Monstiers, Island Restoration Specialist, the podcast episode is a deep dive into one of Island Conservation’s most ambitious projects—and the largest ever undertaken in the Pacific. Late Island, Tonga is a beautiful, pristine island haven for scores of seabirds, and Island Conservation and our partners are working to restore it to protect its species and the surrounding marine ecosystem.
Listening to Kate trek through the rugged bush, enjoy the calls of rare birds, hunt for crabs on the beach, and share laughs with our team and partners inspires hope for future cooperation and ongoing success. The story gives a real sense of what on-the-ground conservation feels like, with the tough work paying off in a wholly revitalized ecosystem.
Voice of Tangaroa is a collaboration between RNZ’s award-winning science podcast Our Changing World and New Zealand Geographic, exploring stories about the state of our world’s oceans.
