María José Vilches

Project Manager

María José holds a Bachelor of Science in Veterinary and Animal Sciences from the Universidad de Chile. After graduating as a Veterinarian, she completed two diploma programs in Veterinary Environmental Management and Wildlife Conservation and Management, also from the Universidad de Chile. She participated as a volunteer at the university’s Environmental Management Center, where she applied environmental management models and tools.

Since 2016, María José has been working with Island Conservation, supporting restoration projects in Chile (northern islands and the Juan Fernandez Archipelago) and the guano islands and peninsulas points of Peru. Her conservation efforts focus on protecting species within the Humboldt Current ecosystem. Based in Chile, María José enjoys cycling and a good game of volleyball when she’s not working to protect the environment and at-risk wildlife.
