Island Conservation is a science-driven, non-profit organization dedicated to preventing extinctions and protecting natural ecological and evolutionary processes on islands. We do this by integrating and applying the five main steps of biodiversity conservation:

We started as a network of conservationists in 1994 and received U.S. non-profit 501(c)3 status in 1997. Our main focus is on eradicating harmful introduced species from islands. We work collaboratively with government management agencies, local communities, and other interested groups who are our partners in the long-term protection of the islands. Because there are more islands than any one organization can ever protect, we encourage other competent organizations to join our mission by sharing data and expertise. In this spirit, we design each project and process so that we can replicate our successes by facilitating the formation of new regional island conservation organizations. We have started two successful sister organizations, Conservación de Islas in Mexico and Island Conservation Northwest in Canada.
